Queensland Deputy Premier and Member for Kawana, Jarrod Bleijie MP, presented the 2025 Kawana Community Awards that shine a light on the everyday local heroes who go above and beyond to support communities including veterans, animal rescue organisations, community sports and schools.
Kawana Powerblades Head Coach, Maggie Boyce’s passion, commitment and hard work throughout the club’s formative years was recognized at an event on 18 July 2025.  
In just three years, Maggie’s coaching has been a key part of KPB’s achievements.  The club’s Senior C (60+ years) crews are now Australian champions after competing at the 2025 Australian Dragon Boat Championships in April.
The crews qualified over 200m and 500 distances and have been invited to the 2026 Club Crew World Championships, scheduled for September in Hualien County, Taiwan.
