Six Strokes with a Powerblade

Shelley Palmer-Boyd

1.How long have you been dragon boating?

I started paddling in 2024 – it’s been nearly two years.

2.What made you take up the sport?

When I turned 50 I decided it was time to take on a new challenge and do something just for me.

3.What do you do when you're not dragon boating?

I work as a Puppy Educator for Guide Dogs Queensland. I also love walking my two rescue greyhounds and taking my little Italian greyhound for bike rides in the front basket. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, reading and listening to audiobooks.

4.Most memorable KPB moment?

It was at the 2024 Pan Pac Masters Games, where KPB won gold in the standard mixed boat ‘Round the Island’ event — my very first medal winning experience.

5.Who inspires you – in dragon boat or in life – and why?

My mum is my biggest inspiration and role model. She’s very fit and active and has a positive attitude and outlook on life.

6.The best thing about being a Powerblade is…

Being part of a strong, like-minded team who train hard and support each other. Surrounded by so much experience, I’m constantly motivated to keep improving.
